"When the Lord called me to start Son Safaris as a non-profit in 2009, it felt like I had just finished talking to a 'burning bush' and now I had to go and free a million people!"
Who starts a non-profit in the middle of a global recession? God does!
How on earth was this going to be successful?
I needed to start from scratch and develop financial partners. I needed to re-ignite relationships in South Africa so our Mission Teams would have a Private Game Reserve to reside on. A daunting task as I had been out of the safari industry for over 10 years. There was no way this was going to happen.
All through God's Timeless Biblical Truths in His Word He called many people: Moses, David, Jonah, Nehemiah to name a few to do the seemingly earthly impossible.
My realization is God never once called someone, folded His arms, and then sit back waiting for results.
God called! His people answered! And then He gave them EVERYTHING they needed to get the job done!
As you continue to read we hope you will grasp the one word I would describe my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: FAITHFUL!
My prayer request over the years has been to ask the Lord to place people in my life to help me do what He has placed on my heart.
Proverbs 15:22 became my source of guidance:
"Plans fail for lack of guidance.
With many advisors they succeed."
September 2009 Son Safaris was incorporated as a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Seeking out Christ centered advisors began with our founding board of directors. Surrounding myself with inspirational people helped move the ministry toward our goal - Sharing God through His creation.
We were already sharing God through His creation a multimedia events all over the US. An average of 30 to 40 events/year since 2003. Almost one event/week and we weren't even advertising. All through word-of-mouth.
Our God-Sized Dream
When Fledge speaks of the beginning of Son Safaris, he often talks about his God-sized dream:
I was speaking around the fire at a VBS in the summer of 2009 just as I had done since 2004. I had been speaking every evening for five nights to a middle school audience, and it was on the final night as we gathered around the fire for worship and sharing that I was sitting behind the kids as they worshipped. I remember just staring into the magnificent fire in front of us under the trees and stars of that evening, listening to the night sounds, guitars, and these inspired kids.
The Lord spoke to my heart then and I was made aware of a dream. The question was "Why can't we have this, this week of worship and growth, around a fire on a Game Reserve...IN AFRICA?
The idea of 'understanding God through His creation', while in Africa, and around a fire to be surrounded by God's creation on a Reserve? And also showing the love of Jesus Christ through service within the local African communities?"
Then it dawned on me, "why not?"
In 2003 God planted a seed. In 2009 the seed began to grow.
In 2009 this was just a dream. In 2010 Son Safaris was registered as a 501(c) non-profit mission and in May 2013 we hosted our Inaugural Mission to Botswana,Africa.
Not only does Fledge speak at venues all over the USA, but we now host multiple missions to Africa:where God communicates through His creation.
The Son Safaris Mission
Our mission is to create a unique opportunity for supporters and volunteers to understand God through His creation while on safari in Africa and serve Christ as His creation on the mission field of the local villages.
Son Safaris is a Christian mission organization. It is our desire to be responsible to God and His people so we accept no government monies. We trust that our Lord will provide for our needs through His people
