Ebola and our Missions to Africa
Due to the Ebola scare in West Africa, we have considered how this may affect a decision to serve with us in Africa.
We would love to share information with you to help you make a wise decision and show just how expansive the world really is.
First, many people may not know that AFRICA is a continent and not a COUNTRY. Africa consists of over 30 independent countries, just as North America consists of three independent countries: Mexico, USA, and Canada
Our Teams serve way down in the Southern part of Africa in the country of SOUTH AFRICA. Geographically, someone traveling to France or London is actually a lot closer to West Africa and the Ebola virus than our teams in the Southern Hemisphere. We also fly directly from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa. Therefore, we do not stop anywhere else in Africa to fuel up or change planes.
Going anywhere in the world to show the love of Jesus Christ can be dangerous and anyone who serves should make wise choices when doing so. We would urge you not to allow fear to cripple your decision to do the Lord's work.
Interestingly, we have heard more stories about people serving in the Dominican Republic who have contracted malaria than where we are serving in our malaria free areas in Africa. Yet, there are many incredible missions still serving in Central America. The malaria scare has not hindered people serving in these dangerous places. Please don't allow the Ebola scare on the other side of Africa scare you from serving in the Southern part.
We have provided three geographical maps to show:
The size of Africa vs the USA.
Where West Africa is located on the continent.
Where our Teams will be serving in South Africa
You can view the current CDC MAP of the EBOLA outbreak to compare.
