Moving in uni-SON

Marching bands playing during halftime at high school and college football games are spectacular to watch. The precision of not only playing an instrument but staying in step, in line, and in unison with 500 or more band members takes weeks of practice. Witnessing this display of such precision and musical wonder is extraordinary! As the band members take their individual places on the field with their unique part and instrument, they make up a single, cohesive image that amazes and delights the crowd.

So how does this bring us to God’s creation? Today we will look at the life of the Arctic Hare. While the beautiful snow-white creature is mostly solitary, it is known to gather in 'flocks' of up to 3,000 other hares! Incredibly, these 'flocks' are able to move as one unit with synchronized movements. They move, run, and change direction at the same time with perfect precision, so that no hare stands out, but that each moves together.

As Christ followers, we have the ability to make choices that help us move, run, and change direction together when making choices for the Lord. Just like watching the 3,000 Hares move in unison, how incredible would it be for others to watch Jesus’ followers in unison with their mission - to love God, love others, and love their enemies.

What an amazing display it would be for nonbelievers to see Christ’s example being set by all of His people together living out these words:

Luke 6:27-35

“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also.

Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. Do to others as you would like them to do to you…..Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.”

Unfortunately, satan sometimes brings chaos by making individuals fall out of sync with everyone else, and before we know it, our unity is compromised. As a Christian community, we can avoid this by seeking God's favor instead of our own agenda.

With God in charge, we can all flock together for His divine purpose. Another wonderful way God communicates through his creation.

Respond in prayer

Gracious Father in heaven, thank You for Your creation that You brilliantly designed. The way You have placed each unique part of Your design in its perfect place is amazing to see.Thank you for communicating through Your creation- even me! As I walk with You may I remain in step, in tune, and in awe of the plan You have for me. Please continue to surround me with people who love You and help us to reflect Your heart and grace. May we all move in unison in our actions and words so that You may be glorified. Amen.
