There is probably nothing more terrifying than relaxing in the warm waves and out of the blue someone screams “SHARK!” This is bound to get your attention and get you out of the water. Whether you live in fear or live in awe of sharks there is no doubt you are aware they exist. Sharks are known to live all over the planet and pretty much everyone has heard of the Great White Shark. But have you ever heard of a Greenland Shark?
Comparable in size to Great Whites (approx. 20ft long), Greenland Sharks are insanely slow swimmers, with a maximum speed of about 1.7 mph (2.7 Kph). On top of that, they’re mostly blind! Looking like nothing so much as a chunk of weather-beaten rock, Greenland sharks can grow up to 7.3 meters (24 feet) long, making them one of the largest of all fish, and the biggest in the Arctic. But they prefer to live in deep, cold water, so humans rarely see them.
What type of relationship do you have with your savior Jesus Christ? Is it insanely slow and so far removed from what Jesus wants in your life to the point where nobody recognizes your relationship with Him? Does your life represent a ‘chunk of weather beaten rock’ that no one notices?
Or is it fast and vibrant and full of excitement where people notice you and know that you follow Jesus? Yes - we understand that you don’t have to be up front and center yelling from the treetops trying to get everyone’s attention to prove you love Jesus.
There are many ways to show the love of Christ to the world. Jesus just wants you to come up from the depths and share Him.
As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. As he entered a village there, ten lepers stood at a distance, crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.
One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.”
One out of Ten returned! Sadly this may be a continuous ratio for all who Jesus has saved from the perils of our own sin. Have you given your life to Christ? Have you been saved by unconditional Grace? Do you show your gratitude to Christ by sharing this with others? Are you the one or part of the nine?
What changes could you make today that could bring you up from cold, icy waters of Satan's clutches to embrace and share the warmth of Jesus' love?
Find a friend? Find a church home? Join a community group?
Whichever it may be you have the opportunity to breach the surface today and be recognized as a follower of Jesus Christ. The Savior of all.
Responding in Prayer
Gracious Father in heaven who loves me very very much thank you for meeting me today right where I am. You sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to show His love for me by dying on a cross for all my sins. Now You ask for me to share this love with others. Lord, may You be with me today as I need the courage to come up from the depths of my own life. I don’t want to be slow and stagnant in my faith. Please help my life to be a reflection of you with all I meet and use me as You see fit today.
